Emmi Switzerland streamlines invoice processing with ISPnext

Emmi Switzerland is the country's largest dairy processor. The company is internationally renowned for its high-quality dairy and cheese products, such as Emmi Fondü and Kaltbach Cave. In 2021, Emmi implemented the Infor M3 ERP system. To process more than 25,000 cost invoices more efficiently, the organisation sought a solution that would integrate seamlessly with M3. They found it in AP Automation. David Meyer, project manager at Emmi Switzerland, explains that ISPnext quickly emerged as the best choice thanks to their expertise with M3 and user-friendly interface.

The pursuit of efficiency

After comparing various providers, Emmi quickly concluded that ISPnext was the right partner. "ISPnext's expertise and experience with Infor M3 were decisive factors, as was the sleek and user-friendly interface. Our discussions were pragmatic, honest and always realistic. That fits in perfectly with our own LEAN project values," David recalls. The initial launch went smoothly and to our complete satisfaction. "We look back on it very positively. The contacts were pleasant to work with and the new way of working with ISPnext has provided clarity and efficiency," he concludes.

Streamlined invoice processing

According to David, the transition represented a significant improvement. "With ISPnext, we now have a streamlined and transparent process for our invoice processing, which saves us a lot of time and prevents errors." Emmi Switzerland now processes approximately 25,000 invoices annually entirely digitally via AP Automation, involving nearly a hundred approvers. The benefits did not go unnoticed: shortly afterwards, it was decided to extend the collaboration with ISPnext to entities in the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada.

Fast forward: an international collaboration

Today, several years after the initial implementation, the collaboration between Emmi and ISPnext has grown into an international success story. What began with the processing of expense invoices in Switzerland has now developed into a solid foundation for the financial processes of seven Emmi companies worldwide, all of which now use the same AP workflow. 

David looks back: "The collaboration with ISPnext has always been constructive and solution-oriented. Even with complex challenges, such as multilingual invoices or the unique double VAT requirements in Canada, they have supported us with smart and workable solutions."

Overcoming challenges in Canada

The Canadian launch in 2025 was challenging due to the tax structure. Nevertheless, Emmi succeeded thanks to ISPnext's dual VAT solution. What made the project even more remarkable is that Emmi carried out a large part of the international rollout independently. The configuration and training were organised internally, with ISPnext only intervening for technical settings and critical showstoppers. This self-service approach resulted in significant time and cost savings and at the same time demonstrated that the organisation had developed strong internal expertise. David emphasises: "The support during the implementations was always excellent." 

Another element that contributed to the success was the close, structured collaboration: "We had biweekly check-ins with Customer Success during the rollout, but also in between, and that was always very helpful," David adds. 

Efficiency and control

The switch from the standard M3 solution to AP Automation from ISPnext has delivered clear benefits. Whereas M3 involved a lot of manual work and paper processing, Emmi now benefits from automated workflows with full visibility into the status of each invoice. Team members receive notifications and reminders, ensuring that invoices are processed quickly and consistently.

The approval processes are also fully aligned with Emmi's internal audit guidelines, which has not only improved efficiency but also transparency and control within the finance department. "With AP Automation, we now have a uniform and efficient way of working for all our entities. It gives us overview, certainty and control over our processes," emphasises David.

Looking ahead

Now that the most important implementations have been completed, Emmi is turning its attention to the future. Process stability remains a priority, but new developments are also in the pipeline. European digitisation regulations, such as e-invoicing, are expected to have a significant impact in the coming years. The company is also closely monitoring the potential of artificial intelligence in the field of invoice recognition, which will enable faster and more accurate processing, even in multiple languages. 

In addition, Emmi sees opportunities in expanding to other Business Spend Management solutions and improvements to existing functionalities, including advanced routing and automatic coding. "It is important to us that ISPnext continues to innovate. We are always open to their new features and initiatives and are curious to see how we can benefit from them," says David.

What began as a pragmatic choice in Switzerland has quickly grown into an international success story. With ISPnext, Emmi has not only streamlined its invoice processing, but also harmonised the financial processes within its global organisation.
