Written by Koert Hordijk | Nov 2, 2026, 1:55:00 PM
In brief

Our AI management system is now ISO/IEC 42001 certified by LRQA. This makes ISPnext one of the first Source-to-Pay providers in the Netherlands to achieve this certification, which puts us at the forefront of Trusted AI governance within our market.

ISO 42001 certification

ISPnext’s AI management system is ISO/IEC 42001 certified by LRQA. The certification scope covers the design, development, maintenance and provision of AI-enabled features within the ISPnext Source-to-Pay platform.

AI-driven Source-to-Pay

nextAI is becoming central to how ISPnext develops more intelligent Finance and Procurement processes. Current applications include AI agents for invoice header and line capture, contract data capture, contract terms and conditions analysis and quotation capture, with further nextAI developments on the roadmap.

Trusted AI governance

ISPnext’s AI management system places defined governance around nextAI, including AI impact assessment, validation, release criteria, ongoing monitoring and clear responsibilities.

Not Just AI, but Trusted AI.

Artificial intelligence is changing what Finance and Procurement technology can do. It can reduce manual work, make better use of data and create more intelligent Source-to-Pay processes.

For ISPnext, this development goes beyond adding isolated AI features to existing software. nextAI is becoming central to the future of our Source-to-Pay platform.

As that role grows, so does the importance of trust. Organisations need to understand not only what AI can do, but also how it is assessed, governed and monitored. That is why ISPnext has invested in both AI innovation and the management framework behind it.

Our AI management system is now ISO/IEC 42001 certified by LRQA. This makes ISPnext one of the first Source-to-Pay providers in the Netherlands to achieve this certification, which puts us at the forefront of Trusted AI governance within our market.

For organisations currently evaluating Source-to-Pay platforms, that brings a new consideration into the selection process.

AI capability matters. Increasingly, the governance behind it matters too.

The standard

What Is ISO 42001 Certification?

ISO/IEC 42001 is an international management system standard specifically developed for artificial intelligence.

It provides organisations with a structured framework for managing AI-related risks and impacts, including considerations around ethics, privacy and transparency.

An AI management system brings the policies, responsibilities and processes surrounding artificial intelligence into a defined governance framework.

This distinction is important.

ISO 42001 certification does not mean that an individual AI product or feature is certified. It means that the management system behind the design, development, maintenance and provision of AI-enabled functionality has been independently assessed against the requirements of the standard.

For ISPnext, the certification scope covers the AI functionality within our Source-to-Pay platform. This allows organisations evaluating nextAI to consider two questions together:

  • What can the technology do?
  • How is that technology governed?
nextAI

From AI Functionality to AI-Driven Source-to-Pay

AI already has practical applications across Source-to-Pay.

Within ISPnext, current nextAI applications include AI agents for invoice header and line capture, contract data capture, contract terms and conditions analysis and quotation capture. Additional applications form part of the further nextAI roadmap.

These capabilities are designed to help Finance and Procurement teams handle information more effectively, reduce manual activity and create more intelligent processes.

But our ambition goes further than individual use cases.

We see AI taking a growing role across Source-to-Pay, moving technology beyond systems that primarily record activities towards systems that can increasingly help users interpret information and take action.

That is where nextAI creates value.

For Finance teams, value can come from reducing manual processing and improving access to financial information. For Procurement teams, it can come from making supplier, contract and purchasing data easier to capture and use. Across Source-to-Pay, it can help move information through processes more intelligently.

NextAI is designed to make AI practical, secure and easy to adopt across Source-to-Pay, helping Finance and Procurement teams reduce manual work, use their data more effectively and create greater value from their processes.

The greater the role of AI becomes, however, the more important its foundation becomes.

Finance and Procurement operate in environments where control, accountability and reliable processes matter. AI should expand what these functions can achieve without pushing those principles into the background.

That is why AI innovation and AI governance need to develop together.

In practice

What Trusted AI Looks Like in Practice

ISO 42001 becomes most meaningful when governance moves from a statement of principle into the way AI is actually managed.

Within ISPnext, that starts before a nextAI feature reaches the customer and continues after it goes live.

Assessing impact before release

Before release, AI functionality goes through an AI Impact Assessment to identify and assess relevant risks.

This helps move risk management to an earlier stage of AI development rather than addressing it only after functionality is already in use.

Validating AI performance

Each AI feature has measurable acceptance criteria before release.

Depending on the functionality involved, verification and validation can include labelled dataset testing, regression testing and precision and recall measurements. A new model is only promoted when it outperforms the current model on the labelled dataset.

This creates a clear quality gate between developing an updated AI model and releasing it for use.

Monitoring after deployment

Governance continues once AI functionality is live.

AI performance is monitored for drift and degradation, with periodic re-evaluation to determine whether further assessment or action is needed.

This helps ensure that AI remains something we actively manage throughout its lifecycle rather than something we evaluate only at launch.

Defining responsibility

AI governance also requires clear ownership.

Within ISPnext, different responsibilities sit with Product, AI, Security and Privacy.

Product is responsible for areas including intended use, user requirements, limitations and functional release approval. The AI Lead is responsible for architecture, models, prompts, technical validation, monitoring and AI Impact Assessments.

Security responsibilities include the AI Management System, security risks, controls, suppliers and AI-related incidents. Privacy responsibilities include personal-data implications, transparency and determining when a Data Protection Impact Assessment is required.

The result is a structured approach in which assessment, validation, monitoring and accountability are part of how nextAI functionality is developed and managed.

That is what Trusted AI means in practice at ISPnext: ambitious AI development backed by a certified AI management system.

Vendor selection

Why ISO 42001 Matters When Choosing a Source-to-Pay Provider

If you are currently in the market for a Source-to-Pay platform, AI is likely to form part of your evaluation.

You may want to know what the technology can automate, how it can reduce manual work and where it can make Finance and Procurement processes more intelligent.

Those are important questions.

But you are not only selecting the AI functionality available today. You are also selecting the technology partner you expect to develop that functionality tomorrow.

That makes it important to look beyond capability alone.

Relevant questions include:

  • What AI functionality is currently available?
  • Which capabilities remain on the roadmap?
  • How are AI risks and impacts assessed?
  • How is performance validated before release?
  • How is AI monitored after deployment?
  • Who is responsible for security, privacy and approval?
  • Has the provider’s AI management system been independently assessed?

ISPnext’s AI management system has been independently certified against ISO/IEC 42001, with the scope covering the AI functionality within our Source-to-Pay platform. ISPnext is one of the first Source-to-Pay providers in the Netherlands to achieve this certification.

This does not replace the need to assess functionality, integration, security or process fit. It adds a meaningful competitive differentiator to that evaluation: independently certified governance behind the provider's AI development.

AI capability creates opportunity. Trusted AI governance creates greater confidence in the foundation behind it.

Assurance

Independent Assurance from LRQA

Independent assessment gives ISO 42001 certification its weight.

ISPnext’s AI management system was assessed and certified by LRQA, with certification completed in October 2026. This takes the discussion around responsible AI beyond an internal commitment.

It provides an independently assessed framework around the way ISPnext designs, develops, maintains and provides AI-enabled functionality within the certified scope.

Our ISO/IEC 42001 certification sits alongside our ISO/IEC 27001 certification and our ISAE 3402 Type II assurance report. You can find all three in the ISPnext Trust Centre.

For organisations comparing AI-enabled Source-to-Pay providers, this brings assurance and governance into the vendor evaluation alongside functionality and future product direction. It also creates a clear distinction between claiming to manage AI responsibly and having the management framework behind it independently assessed.

Independent certification provides evidence of the management framework behind it.

Outlook

Building the Future of AI-Driven Source-to-Pay

ISO 42001 certification is an important milestone for ISPnext, but it is not the destination.

AI is becoming increasingly important across Finance and Procurement. Our ambition with nextAI therefore goes beyond launching individual AI applications.

Our ambition is to make nextAI a defining intelligence layer across Source-to-Pay, helping organisations make better use of their Finance and Procurement data and create measurable value across the entire process.

As that ambition develops, the governance surrounding it needs to develop too.

ISO 42001 gives ISPnext a strong foundation for that journey. It helps us combine innovation with accountability and AI capability with greater confidence.

“AI is becoming fundamental to the future of Source-to-Pay. With nextAI, our ambition goes beyond adding individual AI capabilities. We want AI to drive a new generation of intelligent Finance and Procurement processes that create measurable value for our customers. ISO 42001 gives us a strong governance foundation for that ambition, combining the pace of innovation with the trust and control enterprise organisations expect.”
